Community

SBLI has a long history of supporting the community. Our involvement with the community is an extension of our commitment to our customers and their beneficiaries.

Sox' Francona Salutes Sheridan

Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona was among those acknowledging the accomplishments of SBLI President & CEO Robert K. Sheridan at The Arthritis Foundation Dinner on November 10, 2009 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston. Mr. Sheridan received the Dr. John I. Sandson Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in business, the community, and with numerous charitable causes.

Mass Teachers Association (MTA)

On August 3, SBLI hosted an Ice Cream Social and Cocktail Reception at the MTA (Massachusetts Teachers Association) Summer Conference at Williams College. Along with the MTA executives Ann Wass and Constance Dery, SBLI President Robert K. Sheridan awarded four MTA members with American Express Gift Checks in a raffle drawing. SBLI also hosted a "Smart Money in Tough Times" seminar with "America’s Financial Planner" Jonathan Pond the following day. SBLI is proud to be the preferred life insurance provider of the MTA.

SBLI is a proud supporter of Ovations for the Cure.

Taking a Stand Against Ovarian Cancer.

The tens of thousands of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year now have a powerful force in their corner in pursuing a cure. That force is Ovations for the Cure, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, and one of the few foundations in the United States dedicated to ovarian cancer research, education, treatment options, awareness, and support. The belief that a unique form of cancer needs a unique form of support drives the foundation’s mission to:

  • Proliferate broad-spectrum awareness of the risk factors and subtle warning signs of ovarian cancer
  • Fund new and ongoing research initiatives through organizations such as the Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s Gynecologic Oncology Program, among others
  • Provide an uplifting support network for patients and their caregivers
. To learn more about Ovations for the Cure, visit http://www.ovationsforthecure.org.

SBLI is a proud supporter of the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans

The Mission of the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans is to extend a helping hand to homeless men and women veterans who are addressing the challenges of addiction, trauma, severe and persistent mental illness, and/or unemployment; and who will commit themselves to sobriety, non-violence, and working for personal change. The New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans is recognized as one of the most effective private veteran's transition programs in the country. SBLI is a proud supporter of Project Bread's Walk for Hunger

Always the first Sunday in May, The Walk for Hunger is the oldest continual pledge walk in the country and the largest one-day fundraiser to alleviate local hunger. For 38 years, Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger has provided critical resources for hungry children and families in Massachusetts. The 20-mile Walk route weaves through Boston, Brookline, Newton, Watertown, and Cambridge, and includes entertainment and free snacks along the way. Walkers can walk all or part of the route and can return to the Boston Common on free shuttle buses. The Walk for Hunger funds more than 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, food banks, and food salvage programs in 135 communities across Massachusetts — so it’s funds go to those who are in urgent need of food. It's a "come-one come-all" event that provides seven hours of community service to school children (see website for form). Fun and easy-to-use fundraising tools are also available online at www.projectbread.org. Please join us on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Boston Common, starting between 7:00 and 9:00 A.M. There's nothing else like it!

Stolen Base Learning Initiative (S.B.L.I.)

SBLI is proud to continue the Stolen Base Learning Initiative (S.B.L.I.) in select Minor League ballparks. For every stolen base during a home game by the sponsored team, SBLI will make a $100 donation to a local learning-based charity. The S.B.L.I. "runs" throughout the Minor League Baseball season, and culminates with an on-field check presentation to the charity in late August.

This year, the S.B.L.I. benefitted charities in New Jersey via the Trenton Thunder and Lakewood Blue Claws, and in Rhode Island via the Pawtucket Red Sox.
