Life insurance underwriting is the process for reviewing and ultimately approving, modifying or rejecting your life insurance application.
When you apply for term life or whole life insurance with SBLI, one of our underwriters will review your application, medical exam results, family history, lifestyle and other information. They’ll use this information to determine your insurance risk and rate classification and how much you’ll pay for your policy.
As part of the underwriting process, SBLI gathers information from the MIB Group, Inc. (MIB). MIB is a large group of U.S. and Canadian life insurance companies whose primary purpose is to protect member companies, such as SBLI, from applicants who knowingly or unknowingly leave out important information on their applications. By protecting insurance companies from fraud, MIB helps them keep premiums lower.
